Job summary

Fidelity Investments is seeking a Principal Engineer for Mainframe CICS/MQ/WAS performance and capacity optimization. This hands-on role focuses on detailed capacity engineering, monitoring, reporting, and automation across CICS, MQ, WAS/Liberty, and ODM.

You will collect metrics from SMF/RMF, WAS PMI, Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, and other tools, delivering repeatable insights and operational improvements.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with IBM mainframe middleware domains (CICS, MQ, WAS/Liberty, ODM) in large-scale environments.
• Strong capacity planning, performance engineering, and problem-determination skills.
• Experience with mainframe monitoring and reporting tools; ability to create dashboards and scripts.

Responsibilities

• Analyze CICS performance and behavior: region activity, transactions, programs, files, queues, dispatching, thresholds.
• Analyze MQ across queue managers, CHINIT, queues, channels, and connections to distributed partners; identify tuning opportunities.
• Support WAS/Liberty/Java Batch workloads and PMI metrics; interpret performance data for online and batch activity.
• Analyze Kafka MQ connectors, brokers, and message flow; tune settings for performance.
• Document analysis methods, findings, and recommendations; build reusable scripts and dashboards.
• Participate in production support, incident analysis, stress testing, and after-hours work as needed.
