Job summary

LifeSpire of Virginia is seeking an Independent Living Recreation & Activities Manager in Richmond, VA. You will design and lead a calendar of programs, events, outings, clubs, and classes for Independent Living residents, collaborating with the Resident Council to reflect community interests.

You’ll coordinate trips, manage budgets, and foster a welcoming, inclusive environment that supports activity, learning, and social connection for older adults.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous experience coordinating recreation, activities, events, programs, resident engagement, or a related field preferred.
• Previous experience working with older adults or in senior living preferred.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with residents, families, coworkers, vendors, and community partners.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects, and follow through on details.
• Computer proficiency and ability to learn and use scheduling, communication, and office software.
• Ability to create attractive newsletters, flyers, calendars, and other promotional materials using desktop publishing or similar software preferred.
• Ability to occasionally work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on the community's activity and event schedule.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a dynamic monthly calendar of recreation, activities, events, outings, classes, clubs, wellness programs, educational opportunities, and social experiences for Independent Living residents.
• Work with residents and the Resident Council Activities Committee to identify interests, gather feedback, and develop programs reflecting community needs.
• Create programming that encourages social connection, lifelong learning, wellness, creativity, and active living.
• Coordinate resident trips, special events, entertainment, guest speakers, classes, and community activities.
• Promote activities and events through calendars, newsletters, flyers, digital communications, and other methods.
• Develop positive relationships with residents and partners; foster resident-led programs.
