Job summary

GVI Inc. in Norfolk, VA seeks a Senior Library Technician to support the MSC Engineering Department's Technical Documentation Branch. You will manage engineering records, digitize materials, and maintain the VTL while ensuring regulatory compliance and timely distribution of documentation to MSC vessels.

Ideal candidates have extensive MSC library experience, training ability, and proficiency with SAMM VTL; join a team supporting critical maritime missions across the fleet.

Qualifications

• Printers and scanners are used daily in the library.
• Maintain knowledge of both paper and electronic storage systems.
• Train new library clerks and library technicians.
• Led two shipboard onboard scanning/inventory trips.
• Three years' experience using SAMM VTL applications.
• VEVRAA Federal Contractor

Responsibilities

• Managing engineering and technical records, including receiving, cataloging, filing, organizing, rearranging, and redistributing documentation within the available engineering library space.
• Supporting day-to-day operations by receiving telephone calls, communicating messages by email, answering inquiries, and initiating calls as required.
• Maintaining regulatory approval documentation from USCG, ABS, and other regulatory bodies; retrieving related drawings and documentation from ABS, NAVSEA, SAMM.
• Digitizing technical information by scanning and converting to electronic formats.
• Maintaining and supporting the MSC SAMM Virtual Technical Library (VTL).
• Preparing technical documents for distribution, laminating drawings, and shipping documentation.
• Maintaining the manufacturer technical literature library and advisories.
• Supporting ship availabilities through the assembly and distribution of technical data.
• Creating and updating engineering drawings per MSC CAD Drawing Standard and GTRs.
• Exporting and distributing electronic technical data from SAMM VTL to vessels.
