Job summary

WSP in the U.S. Facilities Division seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our multiple U.S. locations (Boise, ID; Madison, WI; Austin, TX; Houston, TX; Overland Park, KS).

Open to remote for the right candidate. The role focuses on Food & Beverage, Federal, and Industrial facility design with responsible, multidisciplinary project work. The candidate will lead complex mechanical design and construction projects, supervise teams, and ensure regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field is required.
• 10+ years in refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, and utility piping design with independent judgement.
• Engineering license required; multi-state preferred.
• Strong knowledge of hydronic, steam, gas, and high‑pressure systems.
• Experience with permitting, design, and project management.
• Ability to coordinate with multiple disciplines and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Oversee data collection, surveys, and data analysis for project development and design.
• Apply advanced mechanical engineering methods to design and optimize buildings and infrastructure.
• Perform investigations of site conditions to ensure regulatory compliance and safety.
• Develop construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Manage mechanical design and construction across rehabilitation and new-build projects.
• Lead implementation of advanced technologies and load calculations.
• Provide technical assistance on HVAC, air distribution, hydronic, and plumbing systems.
• Lead project teams, manage budgets, hours, and subcontractors.
• Review permit applications and construction documents for compliance.
• Meet with clients and regulators to discuss engineering challenges.
• Prepare reports and presentations with findings and recommendations.
• Develop client relationships and pursue new business opportunities.
• Mentor staff and stay current with engineering practices.
