Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a lead-level Mechanical Engineer to drive design efforts on a multi-disciplinary team, focusing on special purpose equipment, pressure vessels, piping, HVAC, and radioactive material handling systems. The role emphasizes rigorous analysis, complex calculations, and coordination with customers and vendors.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years of nuclear-focused mechanical engineering experience, ABET-accredited degrees, and the ability to obtain US Government security

Qualifications

• BSME/MSME from ABET-accredited program with a strong academic background and interest in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, machine design, or thermal systems
• 10+ years of progressive responsible experience in mechanical engineering, ideally in a nuclear environment
• Experience with piping, pressure vessels, HVAC, and/or radioactive material handling systems

Responsibilities

• Lead Mechanical design engineering efforts on a multi-disciplined project design team and apply mechanical engineering expertise to the design and analysis of special purpose equipment, pressure vessels, and interfacing systems, controls, and structural support elements
• Prepare and review complex calculations
• Prepare mechanical systems/equipment designs
• Prepare design input for drawings (P&IDs, machine layouts, general arrangements)
• Prepare and review equipment specifications
• Interface with vendors with clear specifications
• Prepare and review reports/studies
• Develop project budgets, schedules, and plans; monitor progress
• Interface directly with customers in project meetings
• Mentor junior engineers
