Job summary

Scale Army Careers is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to own backend features end to end in a mature PHP/Laravel codebase. The role focuses on reliable integrations, asynchronous processing, and high-volume data workflows for US-based clients while enabling fully remote work with EST hours.

You will design resilient ingestion pipelines, optimize MySQL/Aurora and MongoDB data handling, and leverage AWS services like SQS, Lambda, and S3.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience.
• 3+ years with PHP and Laravel (or Symfony) plus production systems.
• Experience building and consuming REST APIs.
• Experience with queues, background jobs, retries, and timeouts.
• Experience with AWS services (SQS, Lambda, ECS, S3, RDS/Aurora).
• Experience with AI-assisted development and maintaining code quality.
• Experience with Docker for local development.
• Experience in multi-tenant SaaS environments.

Responsibilities

• Own backend features end to end from requirements through production monitoring.
• Develop and maintain backend functionality within a PHP/Laravel application.
• Design scalable, reliable backend solutions for high-volume multi-tenant SaaS environments.
• Build and maintain integrations with external platforms and services.
• Design asynchronous processing and queue-based workflows using AWS SQS and related services.
• Develop and consume REST APIs and ensure data accuracy across systems.
• Write automated tests and participate in code reviews and PR workflows.
