Job summary

Blue Origin in Redmond, WA is seeking a Sr. Lab Manager to lead the labs supporting OISL and RF payload development.

You will manage engineers and technicians, hire and develop talent, and shape lab strategy and priorities. This hands-on leadership role requires building new lab spaces, coordinating safety, contamination control, and calibration programs, and ensuring equipment is properly commissioned and maintained.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of hands-on lab experience in optics/electrical environments.
• 5+ years of people management with full lifecycle responsibilities (hiring, onboarding, performance, career development).
• Experience in standing up a lab from scratch, including equipment selection and commissioning.
• Ability to read optical/electrical schematics and troubleshoot at component and system level.
• Excellent written and verbal communication across engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of lab engineers and technicians supporting OISL, RF payload, RF ground, and Star Tracker development.
• Design, build-out, and commission new lab space with appropriate environmental controls.
• Define and enforce optical lab requirements: contamination control, vibration isolation, thermal stability, laser safety, cleanliness.
• Coordinate with payload subsystem leads to prioritize lab resources and schedule.
• Oversee procurement of lab equipment and calibration programs; maintain active calibrated state.
• Drive safety culture and train personnel in laser and electrical safety.
