Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Sr. Lab Manager in Redmond, WA to lead a team of lab engineers and technicians supporting optical and RF payload development. You will build new lab capability, define environmental controls, and ensure safety and calibration across the lab environment.

The role requires 6+ years in hands-on labs and 5+ years of people management, with strong communication across engineering teams. This is an on-site position with competitive benefits and base pay ranges.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in optics/electrical engineering/physics or equivalent hands-on experience with 6+ years in labs.
• 5+ years in people management including hiring and performance development.
• Experience in optical and electrical lab environments with contamination control and alignment knowledge.
• Experience standing up a lab from the ground up, including equipment selection and commissioning.
• Ability to read optical and electrical schematics and troubleshoot at component/system level.
• Excellent written and verbal communication across engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineers and technicians in OISL, RF payload, RF ground, and Star Tracker labs.
• Design, build-out, and commission new lab space and environmental controls.
• Define lab requirements including contamination control, vibration isolation, and laser safety.
• Coordinate with payload leads to plan test resources and schedules.
• Oversee equipment procurement, calibration, and facility maintenance.
• Foster a safety culture across lab operations and personnel training.
• Develop lab procedures and configuration management for repeatable testing.
• Assign and track technical work to ensure milestones are met.
• Troubleshoot lab-level issues and unblock the team.
