Job summary

Blue Origin in Redmond, WA is seeking a Sr. Lab Manager to lead lab engineers and technicians supporting OISL, RF payload, RF ground, and Star Tracker development.

You will design and build new lab spaces, set environmental controls, and ensure calibration and safety standards are met. You will recruit, mentor, and evaluate staff, coordinate with subsystem leads, and manage procurement and facility upgrades to keep test operations running smoothly.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent with hands-on lab experience.
• Experience leading lab build-out including equipment selection and commissioning.
• Strong communication across engineering disciplines and stakeholders.
• Experience in optical and electrical lab environments and laser safety.
• Ability to read optical/electrical schematics and troubleshoot at system level.
• Proven track record in people management and career development.

Responsibilities

• Lead the team of lab engineers and technicians supporting OISL, RF payload, RF ground, and Star Tracker development.
• Design, build-out, and commission new lab space with appropriate environmental controls.
• Enforce optical lab requirements: contamination control, vibration, thermal stability, laser safety, cleanliness.
• Coordinate with payload subsystem leads to prioritize lab resources and schedule.
• Oversee procurement and calibration state of lab equipment; manage facility upgrades and maintenance.
• Drive a culture of lab safety and proper training for all personnel.
• Develop lab procedures and configuration management for repeatable testing.
• Scope and track technical work, ensuring milestones are met and bottlenecks resolved.
