Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced backend engineer in Maryland to develop scalable services using Java and Spring Boot. You will design RESTful APIs, implement microservices, and build event-driven workflows leveraging AWS ECS, Lambda, Step Functions, and RDS.

The role emphasizes cloud-native solutions, data modeling, and performance optimization, with collaboration across teams to ensure robust, secure, and scalable systems aligned to FINRA-related requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related discipline with at least 5 years of related experience, or equivalent training and/or work experience
• System design experience
• Strong experience in object-oriented development
• Strong experience with cloud technologies
• Strong experience in data storage technologies
• Experience in performance tuning and optimization
• Experience in DevOps and CI/CD technologies
• Experience in test automation and unit testing
• Experience in software security
• Solid understanding of algorithms, data structures and CS fundamentals
• Experience with Java and Spring Boot
• Experience building RESTful APIs and microservices
• Experience with AWS services (ECS, Lambda, Step Functions, RDS)
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, data modeling and query optimization
• Occasional travel and extended hours may be required
• Must comply with FINRA investment restrictions and confidentiality agreements

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot
• Build well-structured RESTful APIs for business-critical applications
• Implement microservices using established architectural patterns
• Collaborate with senior engineers on service boundaries, data contracts and integration approaches
• Build and maintain event-driven workflows using AWS services
• Develop and deploy cloud-native solutions using ECS, Lambda, Step Functions and RDS
• Participate in improving CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and repeatable deployments
• Design and implement persistence across relational and NoSQL databases
• Apply data modeling and query optimization practices
• Analyze systems to determine the properties and functions of each component
• Build tools and produce technical documentation to improve developer efficiency and team alignment
• Ensure work and problem solving align with team goals
• Recommend alternatives when priorities shift
• Build productive internal and external working relationships to resolve problems
• Share knowledge and present relevant information to teammates
• Collaborate in-person and virtually in furtherance of FINRA’s investor protection and market integrity mission
