Senior/Mid Software Engineer — Java, Spring Boot, Agile

Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a highly capable software engineer to join a fast-moving Agile team in Maryland. You will perform full-lifecycle development in Java and related technologies, collaborating with cross-functional teams to design and deliver robust features for a large enterprise system serving federal security needs.

You will work on server-side logic and client-side UI, develop automated tests with BDD strategies, and participate in Scrum/SAFe ceremonies.

Qualifications

• All candidates must be U.S. Citizens.
• Active TS/SCI Security Clearance with a Polygraph required.
• Demonstrated, in-depth Java experience.
• Experience or familiarity with Spring Boot, Spring Data, JEE, JPA, EJB, JTA, Servlet, Jackson, Jersey, Swing, and JavaFX.
• Experience with JavaScript, Python, C/C++, Groovy, and SQL.
• Experience using Eclipse, Visual Studio Code, Visual Studio, WebStorm, or Rhapsody.
• Experience with Oracle, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or SQL Server.
• Experience in web UI development using AngularJS, JSON, HTML, XML, and XSLT.
• Experience with software configuration management and source control tools.
• Experience developing on Windows operating systems.
• Documented professional experience with web services.
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles and best practices.
• Ability to communicate effectively and prioritize tasks independently.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a fast-moving team.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and 14 years experience.
• Preferred experience with application servers, containers, JavaScript frameworks, testing and mocking tools, build tools, Linux development, cryptographic systems, secure systems engineering, Agile practices, Scrum or SAFe
• SAFe certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform full-lifecycle software development activities within an Agile team environment.
• Participate in daily scrums, sprint planning, PI planning, and Agile ceremonies.
• Analyze complex system requirements and create designs using industry-standard tools and formal methodologies.
• Develop efficient, maintainable, reliable, fault-tolerant, and reusable code.
• Promote cross-team collaboration and reduce maintenance overhead through shared functions and reusable components.
• Develop, tune, and document automation scripts and deploy them into test and production environments.
• Implement robust BDD-based test strategies using DevOps automation and commercial test tools.
• Contribute to server-side logic and client-side UI development as project needs require.
• Collaborate with product, UX, and platform engineers.
• Shape user stories, write clean and testable code, and integrate and deploy resilient features.
• Support a large, complex enterprise system serving federal and national security mission needs.
