Job summary

GovCIO is actively seeking a Senior Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) to lead A&A activities and manage RMF lifecycles across multiple systems. The role includes mentoring junior ISSO staff and ensuring compliance with NIST SP 800-53 Rev 5, CNSSI 1253, and applicable policies.

The position is based in Washington, DC, with eligibility for 100% remote work. Candidates should have DoD 8570.01-M/8140 IAM Level II or III credentials and active Public Trust eligibility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field with 12+ years of information security experience or equivalent.
• 8–10+ years in an ISSO or cybersecurity compliance role with responsibility as ISSO of record.
• Experience conducting RMF assessments across multiple network environments.
• Experience managing multiple concurrent A&A assessments.
• Experience developing RMF artifact packages: SSPs, SARs, POA&Ms, BOE docs.
• Experience with microservices or distributed system security assessments.
• Proficiency with GRC platforms for A&A documentation and continuous monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Lead RMF lifecycle activities from categorization to continuous monitoring across multiple systems.
• Produce and maintain RMF artifacts (SSPs, SARs, SAPs, POA&Ms, BOE, contingency and incident plans).
• Conduct concurrent RMF assessments and document compliance in JCAM.
• Assess and authorize emerging tech (AI/ML) with adapted control baselines.
• Capture evidence, traceability, and remediation plans through to closure.
• Perform PIAs and PTAs; determine impact levels per FIPS 199; ensure regulatory alignment.
• Generate security metrics, dashboards, and stakeholder status updates.
• Ensure compliance with FISMA, NIST 800-53 Rev 5, CNSSI 1253, and policies.
• Lead and mentor junior ISSO staff; develop SOPs and process docs.
• Collaborate with technical/non-technical teams to communicate requirements.
