Job summary

GovCIO is seeking a Senior Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) to lead RMF activities across multiple systems, including emerging AI/ML platforms. The role involves implementing NIST SP 800-53 Rev 5 controls, creating and maintaining SSPs/SARs/SAPs/POA&Ms, and mentoring junior ISSO staff.

The position offers full remote work with a base in Washington, DC. The candidate will manage A&A assessments, coordinate with stakeholders, and ensure compliance with FISMA and DoD guidelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 12+ years of information security experience.
• 8–10+ years in ISSO or cybersecurity compliance role with ISSO of record on assigned systems.
• Experience leading RMF assessments across multiple networks.

Responsibilities

• Support and execute all phases of the RMF lifecycle across multiple systems and environments.
• Develop, maintain, and update RMF artifacts (SSPs, SARs, SAPs, POA&Ms, BOE).
• Conduct concurrent RMF assessments and maintain compliance docs in JCAM.
• Assess emerging tech (AI/ML, microservices) and adapt baselines.
• Manage evidence collection and traceability for assessments and audits.
• Establish system impact levels per FIPS 199 and conduct PIAs/PTAs.
• Review vulnerability results and drive POA&M remediation.
• Provide security reporting and metrics to owners and stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with FISMA, NIST 800-53 Rev 5, CNSSI 1253 and policies.
• Manage workflow in JIRA and maintain status visibility across pipelines.
• Mentor ISSO staff and develop SOPs to improve efficiency.
• Collaborate with technical/non-technical teams to communicate security requirements.
