Job summary

Friedman Williams seeks a Senior Business Development Manager for Intellectual Property, based in Detroit, Washington, D.C., or Chicago. You will lead BD and marketing strategy for the IP Department and Life Sciences, supporting patent, trademark and litigation attorneys.

You will drive client growth, cross-selling, and market visibility through BD initiatives, events, and thought leadership; align plans with firm objectives and track results.

Responsibilities

• Drive client growth, cross-selling, and market visibility through targeted BD initiatives, marketing programs, events, and thought leadership.
• Partner with Department Leaders, Practice Group Leaders and attorneys to develop and execute strategies focused on client retention, cross-selling, and market expansion.
• Align practice group BD plans with broader firm objectives and track measurable results.
• Identify new business opportunities within IP and Life Sciences through market intelligence and industry insights.
• Maintain marketing collateral, experience lists, and practice capabilities to support BD initiatives.
• Collaborate with the proposal team on pitches, proposals, and related business development efforts.
• Conduct market research and monitor industry trends, competitors, and legal developments to inform strategy.
• Track and analyze BD activities, client acquisition, and marketing program effectiveness, providing recommendations to department leadership.
• Identify cross-selling, networking, conference, and thought leadership opportunities to enhance practice visibility and maximize ROI.
• Build relationships with attorneys and business colleagues to support strategic priorities and cross-practice collaboration.
• Manage, mentor, and develop BD and marketing team members, fostering professional growth and a high-performing team.
