Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking an experienced engineer to support the development, evaluation, and grid integration of new gas, wind, solar, and energy storage projects. You will develop owner requirements, review bids, and coordinate interconnection activities with internal teams and external stakeholders.

The role emphasizes technical analysis, planning, and communication to ensure timely, compliant project delivery across generation assets and interconnection processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (ABET-accredited) or equivalent.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license encouraged/preferred.
• Experience with power generation technologies and interconnection processes.

Responsibilities

• Develop owner specifications, design criteria and technical RFP materials for generation projects.
• Evaluate bids, designs, equipment, and resource assessments; document risks and recommendations.
• Support interconnection planning, RTO processes, and generator interconnection agreements.
• Perform or coordinate plant/transmission interface analyses and protective relay considerations.
• Provide technical guidance on FERC and NERC requirements.
• Coordinate with various teams and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality work.
