Job summary

AEP is seeking an Engineer (Sr. - Principal) for the New Generation Projects & Interconnection team in Columbus, OH.

The role provides technical support for development, evaluation, and grid integration of new gas, wind, solar, and energy storage facilities, including crafting owner specs and RFP materials. The role involves leading interconnection processes, conducting electrical planning studies, and coordinating with multiple teams to deliver technically sound outcomes.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent with ABET accreditation.
Experience with power generation technologies and interconnection processes.
Strong analytical, written, and communication skills.
Proven ability to coordinate complex projects with multiple stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Develop owner specifications, design criteria, scopes of work, and technical RFP materials for generation projects.
Evaluate bids, project designs, equipment suppliers, and wind/solar resource assessments; document risks.
Support interconnection planning, RTO processes, and interconnection agreements.
Perform or coordinate power system studies including voltage, tap settings, and short-circuit analyses.
Provide guidance on FERC and NERC requirements; liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
