Job summary

Valar Atomics is seeking a Staff I&C Hardware Engineer to specify, design, install, and maintain instrumentation and control hardware for nuclear fuel manufacturing. Lead field instrument selection, control panels, and safety instrumented systems with senior technical leadership on complex projects.

You will own instrument data sheets, loop diagrams, and I/O architecture while mentoring junior engineers and coordinating with contractors to ensure safety and reliability across facilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Chemical, or Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 8+ years of instrumentation or I&C engineering experience in process industries, with ownership of instrumentation scope on capital projects.
• Experience specifying and sizing field instruments and control valves; lead instrument index and data sheet development.
• Experience with instrument calibration, loop checks, and field commissioning.
• Hazardous area classification and intrinsic safety loop verification experience.
• Ability to read P&IDs, electrical schematics, loop diagrams, and instrument data sheets.
• Knowledge of 4-20 mA/HART, Foundation Fieldbus, PROFIBUS PA, and Modbus RTU.

Responsibilities

• Specify and size field instrumentation and produce instrument data sheets and requisitions.
• Size and specify final control elements; perform valve sizing and actuator verification.
• Design control panels and remote I/O architecture with enclosure layout and power distribution.
• Perform hazardous area classification and intrinsic safety assessments for classified areas.
• Own instrument documentation: index, loop diagrams, I/O lists, and P&ID markups.
• Lead SIS hardware scope: SIL determination, redundancy, proof test planning, and verification.
• Tune PID/regulatory loops; commission field instrumentation and resolve issues.
• Coordinate with process, mechanical, and piping engineers on installation details.
• Mentor junior engineers; oversee contractors and vendor deliverables.
