Job summary

Valar Atomics is seeking an I&C Hardware Engineer to specify, install, and maintain instrumentation and control hardware for nuclear fuel manufacturing facilities. You will design panels, select field instruments, and ensure compliance with safety standards in hazardous environments in Utah.

You will collaborate with I&C Software, process, electrical, mechanical, and safety engineers, driving commissioning, calibration, and documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline.
• 5+ years of instrumentation or I&C engineering in process industries.
• Hands-on experience specifying/sizing field instruments and control valves; instrument data sheets.
• Experience delivering loop diagrams, hook-up drawings, I/O lists, and cable schedules.
• Knowledge of hazardous area classification and intrinsic safety concepts.
• Ability to read P&IDs, electrical schematics, loop diagrams, and data sheets.
• Experience with calibration, loop checking, and field commissioning.
• Experience commissioning instrumentation and tuning regulatory control loops.

Responsibilities

• Select, size, and specify field instrumentation including flow, pressure, differential pressure, temperature, level, and analytical devices.
• Size and specify final control elements; perform valve sizing, noise and cavitation checks, and actuator thrust verification.
• Design control panels and remote I/O architecture including enclosure layout, I/O allocation, and power distribution.
• Perform hazardous area classification and select equipment for classified areas per NEC/IEC standards.
• Develop instrumentation documentation including loop diagrams, hook-up drawings, I/O lists, and P&ID mark-ups.
• Support safety instrumented system hardware scope with SIL determinations and verification calculations.
• Tune PID loops; commission field instrumentation; diagnose and resolve loop deviations and signal issues.
• Establish calibration programs and oversee installation of field wiring and network infrastructure.
• Prepare FAT, SAT, and commissioning plans; ensure turnover and as-built documentation.
• Coordinate with process, mechanical, and piping engineers on installation details and material compatibility.
