Job summary

Valar Atomics is seeking a Staff Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Engineer to design, develop, commission, and maintain control systems for nuclear fuel manufacturing facilities. You will own the full controls stack— PLC/DCS programming, SCADA/HMI development, safety functions, historian integration, and enterprise interfaces.

Senior leadership, contractor oversight, and mentorship of junior engineers are key elements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronic, Computer, or Systems Engineering.
• 8+ years of I&C or controls engineering in process industries with ownership of complex projects.
• Hands-on PLC programming experience with major platforms using IEC 61131-3.
• Experience developing or maintaining SCADA applications on major platforms.
• Experience ISA-88 batch control sequences.
• Familiarity with ISA-95 enterprise-control integration concepts.
• Experience commissioning instrumentation and tuning regulatory loops.
• Ability to read P&IDs and electrical drawings; size and specify field instruments.
• Lead hazardous area classification and instrument index development for capital projects.

Responsibilities

• Develop PLC/DCS programs on platforms like Rockwell, Siemens, or Emerson.
• Configure SCADA applications and alarm configurations; build tag databases.
• Design HMI displays per ISA-101 and HP HMIs for local and supervisory levels.
• Develop batch control sequences per ISA-88; monitor batch execution and progress.
• Configure and commission safety instrumented functions (SIFs) per IEC 61511.
• Prepare FAT, SAT, commissioning plans; conduct loop checks and calibration tests.
• Provide technical direction to contractors and mentor junior engineers.
