Job summary

Morgan Stanley is seeking a Lead Mainframe Storage Engineer to join the Z Infrastructure team. You will manage a highly available IBM z/OS storage platform, drive data replication, disaster recovery, and storage automation to minimize production impact.

The role requires deep mainframe storage expertise, experience with DFSMS, and strong problem-solving skills to ensure resilience against infra failures and cyber events. Excellent collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential.

Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of IBM z/OS environment and mainframe storage technologies.
• Experience with DFSMS and data replication strategies; DR planning and backups.
• Proficiency with mainframe tape and storage tooling (TLMS, RMM).
• Experience with data management classes, SMS configurations and storage class rules.
• Familiarity with PPRC replication protocols and Metro Mirror/Global Copy implementations.

Responsibilities

• Configure and maintain IBM DS8000 storage and TS7700 environments.
• Design and implement SMS, data class, storage class, and management class rules with DFSMS.
• Oversee data replication, disaster recovery planning, and backups using DFHSM/DFDSS.
• Monitor capacity, forecast growth, and plan storage upgrades to avoid shortages.
• Develop automation scripts in REXX to streamline storage ops and alerts.
• Troubleshoot storage outages, perform RCA, and resolve dataset access issues.
