Job summary

Morgan Stanley is seeking a Lead Mainframe Storage Engineer to join the Z Infrastructure team, providing a highly available IBM z/OS compute and storage platform. You will ensure resilience against infra failures, regional disasters, and cyber events while supporting critical production workloads.

Responsibilities include configuring IBM DS8000/TS7700 hardware, implementing DFSMS SMS configurations, and leading DR planning with DFHSM/DFDSS. Strong scripting and RCA skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of the IBM z/OS environment.
• Proficiency with system utilities (ICKDSF, IDCAMS, IEBCOPY) and tape management systems (TLMS, RMM).
• Experience with DFSMS storage management and SMS configurations.
• Knowledge of DFHSM/DFDSS for backups and DR.
• Understanding of FICON connectivity and z/OS access methods (VSAM, QSAM).
• Experience with replication, PPRC protocols, Metro Mirror, Global Mirror, Global Copy.
• Experience with Copy Services Manager and ESSNI.
• Resiliency technologies including Hyperswap & Hyperwrite.
• Performance-focused storage optimization techniques.

Responsibilities

• Configure and maintain IBM DS8000 storage and TS7700 VTS hardware.
• Design SMS configurations and manage data, storage, and management classes using DFSMS.
• Oversee backup and disaster recovery planning with DFHSM/DFDSS.
• Monitor storage capacity and plan infrastructure upgrades.
• Develop automation scripts in REXX for storage operations and alerts.
• Troubleshoot storage outages and perform RCA to resolve dataset access issues.
