Job summary

FNTS is seeking a Senior IBM iSeries Engineer to maintain IBM i / iSeries environments, plan migrations, and support break/fix capacity. This role focuses on managing OS, LPPs, backups, and new offerings, while collaborating with customers on migrations and remote management deployment.

You will join a managed services engineering team with responsibilities spanning incident resolution, proactive improvements, and documentation to ensure reliability and uptime, across a remote US-based workforce.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of IBM iSeries system administration.
• Knowledge of i/OS versions from V5R4 to V7R3.
• Experience with POWER systems hardware.
• Experience configuring LPARs via HMC.
• Storage management across JBOD/RAID/SAN and related performance.
• Knowledge of printer configurations.
• TCP/IP config in IPv4 environments; IPv6 desired.
• Understanding of journal management.
• Software replication tools like MIMIX, iTera, PowerHA.
• BRMS backup solutions for recovery/migration.
• Familiarity with tape library configuration/implementation.
• OS upgrades, PTF deployment and image catalog usage.
• Experience with MPG performance tools.
• Automation/monitoring tools: Halcyon, absMessage, Robot products.
• Experience coding/debugging CL.
• Self-motivated with independence.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Knowledge of AV/AR, Flash Copy, Global Mirror.

Responsibilities

• Respond to incidents and requests with in-depth analysis and solutions.
• Proactively review issues to prevent recurrence as part of CI culture.
• Perform customer reporting functions as required.
• Prepare DR testing/planning and OS upgrade activities.
• Maintain IBM i OS and LPPs; manage backups and migrations.
• Write and maintain system documentation.
• Assist customers in migration to FNTS or remote management setup.
• Leverage roadmap to implement new tech offerings (e.g., LPM).
• Install OS & major subsystem releases with customer timing/testing.
• Maintain golden/sandbox templates for deployments.
• Participate as IBM i SME in infrastructure projects.
