Job summary

First National Technology Solutions (FNTS) is seeking an experienced Sr. IBM iSeries Engineer to maintain IBM i environments and drive migrations, backups, and performance improvements.

This role focuses on delivering reliable remote managed services across customer environments and leveraging live partition mobility and advanced replication tools. It requires deep IBM i expertise, strong scripting/CL skills, and the ability to work independently in a remote US-based setting.

Qualifications

• IBM iSeries System Administration (10+ years experience)
• Knowledge of i/OS systems from V5R4 to V7R3 and major differentiators
• Knowledge of POWER systems hardware
• Experience configuring LPARs using the Hardware Management Console
• Experience with storage management in JBOD, RAID, and SAN environments
• Experience defining and troubleshooting Printer configurations
• Experience configuring TCP/IP in IPv4 (IPv6 desired)
• Understanding of journal management
• Software replication (MIMIX, iTera, PowerHA)
• BRMS backup solutions for recovery/migration
• Familiarity with tape library configuration and implementation
• OS Upgrades, PTF Deployment and software installation via Image Catalog
• Experience using performance tools such as MPG
• Experience configuring automation/monitoring tools (Halcyon, absMessage, Robot)
• Experience coding and debugging CL
• Self-motivated and independent
• Excellent written/verbal communication
• Knowledge of AV/AR, web query, Flash Copy, Global Mirror

Responsibilities

• Respond to incidents and requests with in-depth analysis
• Support proactive problem avoidance as part of Continuous Improvement
• Perform reporting functions as required
• Prepare for DR Testing/Planning, OS upgrades, PTF deployment
• Maintain IBM i OS and LPP configurations
• Write and maintain system documentation
• Assist migration to FNTS or remote management
• Implement roadmap-driven technologies (Live Partition Mobility)
• Install new OS releases with customer timing/testing
• Maintain golden/sandbox templates
• Participate in IBM i SME projects
