Job summary

Maximus is seeking a full-time Senior IBM COBOL Developer to support our IRS client. This is a remote position requiring an active Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI).

Responsibilities include designing and coding IBM COBOL programs, updating documentation, performing unit tests, code reviews, and mentoring other developers. Candidates should have 5+ years of COBOL experience, DB2, CICS, JCL, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent required; 5+ years of relevant professional experience.
• Active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI) required.
• At least four (4) years of experience with IBM COBOL programming language.
• Experience with DB2 and IBM DB2 utilities.
• Experience with CICS.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated success in client support.
• Ability to interface with all levels of management.
• Ability to perform complex tasks with minimal supervision.
• Excellent time management, scheduling and organizational skills.
• Preferred qualifications include experience with IRS processing systems; SQL, JCL, Batch processing.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of software solutions, design modules, unit test, and produce proposals.
• Evaluate new coding techniques and tools.
• Consult on requirements elicitation and definition.
• Design software solutions per requirements.
• Code software solutions per designs.
• Perform code reviews and unit tests; integrate modules.
• Mentor other developers and provide training.
• Support testing and remediate defects.
• Assist users via troubleshooting and data analysis.
• Investigate new tools and techniques to improve coding standards.
• Provide guidance to employees where needed.
• Create, update, and maintain COBOL programs.
