Job summary

Maximus is seeking a Senior IBM COBOL Developer to support the IRS client. This is a remote position requiring an active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI).

You will lead COBOL development, update documentation, perform unit testing, and mentor junior staff while coordinating with multiple stakeholders to deliver compliant solutions. Applicants should have 5+ years of COBOL/DB2/CICS experience and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent with 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Active IRS Moderated-Risk Background Investigation (MBI) required.
• At least four years of IBM COBOL experience.
• Experience with DB2 and IBM DB2 utilities.
• Experience with CICS.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently or in a team.
• Preferred: IRS processing systems, SQL, JCL, Batch processing.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of COBOL modules and unit testing.
• Update documentation such as FSPs/PRPs and Visio diagrams.
• Track requirements and create/execute unit test cases.
• Write and review documentation such as UWRs, IRMs, ICDs, COHs.
• Rewrite programs for efficiency and new requirements.
• Consult with management, engineering, and technical staff.
• Perform systems analysis and programming tasks for software.
• Document development and revisions with comments for clarity.
• Prepare workflow diagrams and convert to coded instructions.
• Assist testers in development, SAT and FIT environments.
