Job summary

Maximus is seeking a Senior IBM COBOL Developer to support the IRS client in a fully remote role. This position requires an active Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI) and a strong background in COBOL, DB2, CICS, and IBM utilities.

You will lead development, update documentation, review code, and mentor other engineers while ensuring compliance with tax processing requirements. The role demands excellent problem solving, communication, and the ability to work independently or with a team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree plus 5+ years of relevant professional experience required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least five (5) years of relevant experience required.
• Must possess an active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI).
• At least four (4) years of experience with IBM COBOL programming language.
• Experience with DB2 and IBM DB2 utilities.
• Experience with CICS.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated success in client support.
• Ability to interface with all levels of management.
• Ability to perform complex tasks with minimal supervision and guidance.
• Excellent time management, scheduling and organizational skills.
• Preferred qualifications include IRS processing systems; experience with SQL, JCL, Batch processing.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of software solutions meeting business requirements, including designing and implementing modules, unit testing, troubleshooting, and proposals.
• Evaluate new coding techniques, tools, modules, and implement as appropriate.
• Consult on requirements elicitation and definition.
• Design software solutions per systems requirements.
• Code software solutions per designs.
• Code reviews, unit test, and integrate coded modules.
• Assist other developers in resolving issues by providing guidance and training.
• Support testing and remediate defects.
• Support users through troubleshooting and analysis of production logs and data.
• Investigate new solutions, tools, products, and techniques to Incorporate into standards.
• Provide guidance, coaching, and training to other employees.
