Job summary

Maximus is seeking a Senior IBM COBOL Developer to support our IRS client in a fully remote role. The position requires an active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI) and a strong background in COBOL, DB2, and CICS.

You will lead development, design modules, and ensure code quality across the application lifecycle. The role emphasizes documentation, testing, and collaboration with management and other developers to translate business requirements into robust solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 5+ years of experience.
• Active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI) required.
• At least four years of IBM COBOL experience.
• Experience with DB2 and IBM DB2 utilities.
• Experience with CICS.
• Strong communication and client-support skills.
• Ability to work independently or in a team.
• Preferred IRS processing systems experience; SQL, JCL, Batch processing.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of software solutions meeting requirements and design modules.
• Evaluate new coding techniques, tools and implement as appropriate.
• Consult on requirements elicitation and definition.
• Design software solutions per systems requirements.
• Code software solutions per designs and perform reviews.
• Assist other developers with guidance and training.
• Support testing and remediate defects.
• Troubleshoot production logs and data with users.
• Investigate new solutions and techniques for coding standards.
• Provide guidance and training to other employees as needed.
