Job summary

Maximus is seeking a Senior IBM COBOL Developer for our IRS client. This is a FULL TIME remote position requiring active IRS MBi clearance. You will lead COBOL-based development, update documentation, and collaborate across teams to deliver compliant solutions.

Essential duties include designing modules, code reviews, testing, and mentoring other developers. Must have 5+ years in IBM COBOL, DB2, and CICS, with JCL/batch experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 5+ years of professional experience or equivalent
• At least five years of IBM COBOL experience
• Active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI) required
• Experience with DB2, IBM DB2 utilities, and CICS required
• Experience with JCL and batch processing preferred

Responsibilities

• Lead development of software solutions meeting business requirements; design, implement, test, and document modules
• Evaluate new coding techniques and tools; mentor other developers
• Update documentation and keep diagrams and specs current
• Rewrite programs and optimize for efficiency and new requirements
• Coordinate with management, engineering, and technical staff to clarify intent and suggest changes
• Prepare workflow diagrams and translate into coded instructions
