Job summary

Maximus is seeking a Senior IBM COBOL Developer for the IRS client. This is a remote, full-time position requiring an active Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI). You will lead development, coding, testing, and documentation efforts across COBOL-based modules.

You will evaluate new tooling, assist in requirements definition, and mentor teammates while ensuring compliance with IRS processing standards and coding practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; 5+ years of relevant professional experience or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of software solutions meeting system specifications, including design, coding, unit testing, and issue resolution.
• Evaluate new coding techniques and tools and adopt where appropriate.
• Consult on requirements elicitation and definitions; design and implement modules.
• Update documentation (FSP/PRP/Visio diagrams) and track requirements with unit tests.
• Rewrite programs with workflow charts and symbolic logic; improve efficiency.
• Provide guidance and training to other developers; support testing and production troubleshooting.
