Job summary

Maximus is seeking a full-time Senior IBM COBOL Developer to support the IRS client in a remote role. Candidates must have an active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI).

The role focuses on COBOL development, DB2/CICS experience, and strong client-facing communication. Essential duties include designing, coding, testing, and maintaining COBOL programs, updating documentation, and collaborating with managers and testers in SAT/FIT environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least five (5) years of relevant experience required.
• Must possess an active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI).
• At least four (4) years of experience with IBM COBOL programming language.
• Experience with DB2 and IBM DB2 utilities.
• Experience with CICS.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated success in client support.
• Ability to interface with all levels of management.
• Ability to perform complex tasks with minimal supervision and guidance.
• Excellent time management, scheduling and organizational skills.
• Preferred qualifications include experience with IRS processing systems; experience with SQL, JCL, Batch processing.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of software solutions that meet business requirements, including designing modules, unit testing, troubleshooting, and proposing fixes.
• Evaluate new coding techniques and tools and implement as appropriate.
• Consult on requirements elicitation and definition and design software solutions per system requirements.
• Code software solutions per designs and perform code reviews, unit tests, and integration.
• Assist other developers with issues, providing guidance and training and supporting testing and remediation of defects.
• Support users through troubleshooting and analysis of production logs and data.
• Investigate new solutions, tools, products, and techniques to improve coding standards.
• May provide guidance, coaching, and training within the job area.
