Job summary

Maximus is seeking a Senior IBM COBOL Developer to support the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as a fully remote, full-time position. The role requires an active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI) and strong COBOL, DB2, and CICS experience.

The candidate will lead development, design software components, perform unit tests, reviews, and collaborate with teams to deliver reliable tax processing solutions. Prior experience with SQL, JCL, and batch processing is preferred.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 5+ years of professional experience required.
Active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI) required.
At least four years of experience with IBM COBOL programming language.
Experience with DB2 and IBM DB2 utilities.
Experience with CICS.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to interface with all levels of management.

Responsibilities

Lead the development of software solutions that meet business requirements, designing modules, unit testing, troubleshooting, and producing proposals.
Evaluate new coding techniques, tools, modules and implement as appropriate.
Consult on requirements elicitation and definition.
Design software solutions per systems requirements and code accordingly.
Conduct code reviews, unit tests, and integrate modules.
Assist other developers with guidance and training.
Support testing and remediation of defects and production log analysis.
Investigate new solutions, tools, and techniques to improve standards.
May provide coaching and training to others.
