Job summary

Maximus is seeking a Senior IBM COBOL Developer for our IRS client. This is a remote role requiring an active Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI). You will lead COBOL development, update documentation, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver mainframe solutions that meet business needs.

Essential duties include coding, testing, and reviews, plus guiding other developers and supporting production analysis. A Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of COBOL experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field with 5+ years of experience.
• Five+ years in IBM COBOL development and mainframe technologies.
• Requires active IRS Moderate-Risk Background Investigation (MBI).
• Experience with DB2, CICS, SQL, JCL and batch processing.
• Ability to work with documentation and client stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of COBOL-based modules per system specifications.
• Update and maintain IBM COBOL programs and related docs.
• Perform unit tests, code reviews, and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with managers and testers in SAT/FIT environments.
• Translate requirements into working solutions and advise on improvements.
