Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead System Protection Engineer to join our Grid Services team. You will lead protection philosophies, settings for transmission lines, transformers, and bus protection, and review substation protection and control designs for HV projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program or equivalent.
• 10+ years of system protection engineering experience for transmission/substation projects.
• Strong knowledge of protection philosophies and settings for line, transformer, bus, breaker, capacitor/reactor protection.
• Experience with CAPE/ASPEN or similar protection analysis tools.
• Proficiency with relay configuration tools such as SEL AcSELerator and EnerVista; familiarity with Powerbase.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and application of protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, breakers, and capacitor/reactor banks.
• Perform short‑circuit analysis, relay coordination, and time‑current curve development.
• Configure, test, and troubleshoot microprocessor relays using vendor software (SEL AcSELerator, EnerVista, etc.).
• Manage relay records and protection data in Powerbase; ensure documentation aligns with client standards and change control.
• Support C&P design in coordination with substation teams (one‑lines, schematics, wiring, panel layouts).
• Assist with field commissioning, RFIs, and protection issue resolution; ensure compliance with IEEE/ANSI/NERC PRC.
