Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks a Lead System Protection Engineer for its Grid Services team. You will lead protection philosophy development, relay settings, and studies for transmission and substation projects, while supporting P&C design and field commissioning.

Responsibilities include fault studies, relay coordination, and configuring microprocessor relays with SEL AcSELerator, EnerVista, CAPE/ASPEN. Hybrid work with relocation possibilities may apply.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program (or equivalent).
• 10+ years of experience in system protection engineering for transmission/substation projects.
• Strong background in protection logic: line, transformer, bus, breaker protection philosophies.
• Experience with CAPE/ASPEN (or equivalent protection analysis tools).
• Proficiency with relay configuration tools: SEL AcSELerator, EnerVista, other OEM software.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and application of protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, bays, and capacitor/reactor banks.
• Perform system protection studies including short‑circuit analysis and relay coordination.
• Configure, set, and troubleshoot microprocessor relays using vendor software.
• Manage relay records and documentation in Powerbase or similar databases.
• Support P&C design documentation and field commissioning activities.
