Job summary

GFT is seeking a Senior Physical Substation Designer to lead high‑voltage substation projects up to 500 kV. The role blends design, analysis, and collaboration with senior engineers across multiple offices. The position offers a hybrid work model with potential remote arrangements for the right candidate.

You will leverage AutoCAD or MicroStation to produce layouts and detailed drawings, while ensuring compliance with NESC, NEC, IEEE and ANSI standards. Travel to field sites may be required.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of relevant substation or electrical T&D design experience.
• Expertise in CAD tools such as AutoCAD or MicroStation.
• Knowledge of NESC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI standards and rural substation design guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Design and execution of HV substations 34.5kV–500kV with safety, cost, quality and reliability focus.
• Generate designs and detailed deliverables under supervision of lead engineer.
• Create general arrangement, elevation, grounding and conduit drawings.
• Perform engineering calculations and develop construction documents.
• Review vendor submittals for design parameter compliance.
• Travel to job sites for data gathering and return with field notes.
