Job summary

AES is seeking a Senior Protection and Control Engineer to lead protection and control activities for high‑voltage substations across renewable projects. You will drive design development, reviews, and commissioning, coordinating with EPCs, utilities, and internal teams to ensure reliability and safety.

The role supports projects from design through energization, with travel ~25% and remote‑based options within MST/EST time zones.

Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of protection and control engineering experience for HV substations or renewable facilities.
Experience with SEL protection and automation products.
Strong understanding of protection principles, relay coordination, and substation control schemes.
Familiarity with IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus and related automation apps.
Ability to read single-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
Excellent communication and organizational skills across multiple projects.

Responsibilities

Lead protection and control engineering activities for HV substations (35–500 kV).
Provide design development, review, construction support, commissioning, energization, and post‑energization support.
Review protection drawings, philosophies, relay settings, and coordination studies.
Coordinate with EPCs, utilities, and internal teams throughout lifecycle.
Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge across the organization.
Support NERC PRC compliance and project reporting.
Travel to project sites and facilities; approx. 25% travel.
