Job summary

The AES Corporation is seeking a Senior Protection and Control Engineer to lead protection and control activities for high‑voltage substations within AES Clean Energy projects. You will drive design development, review relay schemes, and coordinate protection studies across solar, wind, and storage facilities.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in HV protection, experience with SEL products, and strong coordination skills.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in protection and control for HV substations or renewable facilities.
Experience with SEL protection and automation products is required.
Familiarity with IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus and substation automation applications.

Responsibilities

Lead protection and control engineering activities for AES Clean Energy HV substations (35 kV–500 kV).
Provide technical leadership across design, review, construction, commissioning, energization, and post‑energization.
Review protection drawings, backup philosophies, relay settings, and short‑circuit/coordination studies.
Coordinate NERC PRC compliance across projects and liaise with EPCs, utilities, and internal teams.
Mentor engineers, share knowledge, and support leadership development within the engineering organization.
Travel to project sites and facilities; expected travel ~25%.
