Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a Supervisory Officer to oversee housing-unit security, supervise inmates, and maintain custody and control in assigned areas. Under general supervision, you will conduct routine inspections, investigations into misconduct, support formal and informal counts, and train or evaluate subordinate staff.

Must have a high school diploma and relevant experience; a related bachelor’s degree may substitute.

Responsibilities

• Oversee housing-unit security and inmate custody.
• Perform routine inspections for security, safety, and sanitation compliance.
• Conduct investigations of misconduct by inmates and staff.
• Assist in counts (formal and informal).
• Supervise performance, conduct, and appearance of security personnel; prepare evaluations.
• Counsel, discipline, and train subordinate staff to standards.
• Prepare reports as needed or required.
• Perform duties of Shift Lieutenant when necessary.
