Job summary

The role conducts inspections, investigates misconduct, counsels staff, conducts counts, and prepares reports. A high school diploma with related experience is required; a related bachelor’s degree may substitute; must complete Basic Supervisory Course within six months of entry.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
• Must be certified by the South Carolina Department of Corrections Training Academy and complete the Basic Supervisory Course within six months of entry.

Responsibilities

• Supervise security personnel assigned to housing units and oversee inmate custody and control.
• Perform routine inspections of living areas for security, safety, and sanitation compliance.
• Conduct investigations of alleged misconduct by inmates and staff.
• Assist in formal and informal counts and prepare reports as needed.
• Counsel and train subordinate staff; supervise performance and conduct; prepare evaluations.
