Job summary

State of South Carolina is seeking a qualified Security Supervisor to oversee security staff in housing units, supervise inmates, and ensure safety, inspections, and investigations. You will complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire and help maintain high standards across the unit.

This full-time role requires a high school diploma with relevant experience; a related bachelor’s degree may substitute for experience. State benefits apply.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required with relevant experience.
• A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
• Must be certified by the South Carolina Department of Corrections Training Academy and complete the Basic Supervisory Course within six months of entry.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the supervision of subordinate security assigned to housing units and custody of inmates.
• Conduct routine inspections of living areas for security, safety, and sanitation.
• Investigate alleged misconduct by inmates and security personnel.
• Assist in conducting counts and supervise performance, conduct, and appearance of staff.
• Counsel, recommend disciplinary action, and train subordinate staff to required standards of performance.
• Prepare reports as needed.
