Job summary

Blue Origin is hiring for a senior tooling and tooling integration role to design, analyze, and release ground support equipment and fixtures for the Engines, Lunar, and New Glenn programs. You will work closely with design teams and manufacturing engineers to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective hardware for flight and development testing.

We seek a senior engineer with 10+ years in tooling design, FEM analysis, CAD, and experience delivering production-ready fixtures.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
• 10+ years’ experience with design, build, and commissioning of tooling, fixtures, custom machines or design support equipment for manufacturing, assembly, and test.
• Experience with FEM and complex structural analysis in addition to hand calculations including Freebody diagrams
• Proven experience with CAD based design software for modeling and drafting.
• Strong expertise in design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) including experience taking products from development design to rate production
• Proven understanding of common manufacturing materials, GD&T, and tolerance/stack-up analysis
• Experience with manufacturing processes and machines such as CNC machining, manual mills and lathes, welding, sheet-metal bending, lifting/rigging, assembly, inspection

Responsibilities

• Design production, development, test, integration, and advanced manufacturing tooling and equipment for the Blue Engines, Lunar, and New Glenn business units.
• Capable of integrating concepts and principles of mechanical design and analysis of several projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to interpret and apply sound design and drafting standards (ASME Y14.5) when creating drawings.
• Handle a wide range of technical design challenges related to all types of assembly fixtures, material handlers, rotisseries, test fixtures, structural weldments, environmental chambers, and custom machines.
• Collaborate with component designers, manufacturing engineers, and integration engineering to achieve cradle-to-grave metrics.
• Manage projects, including vendor selection, fabrication, inspection, equipment installation, proof testing, and commissioning of custom tooling.
• Set, implement, and maintain schedules and budgets to ensure project completion.
