Job summary

Samsung Austin Research and Development Center seeks a Senior Staff GPU Physical Design Engineer to drive full‑chip and block‑level implementation for high‑performance GPU IP. You will lead floorplanning, placement, routing, clock tree synthesis, and signoff, shaping robust silicon for advanced nodes.

You will collaborate with architecture, RTL, and design technology teams to optimize power, performance, and area while mentoring engineers and advancing scalable flows.

Qualifications

• 11+ years of experience with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Engineering, or 9+ years with a Master’s, or 7+ years with a Ph.D.
• 7+ years hands‑on experience with full physical design implementation flows, including synthesis, place‑and‑route, CTS, timing closure, and signoff.
• Strong expertise in physical design for complex GPU/SoC, including low‑power design, DRC/LVS, and advanced‑node challenges.
• Experience with timing analysis and convergence methodologies (STA, reliability, SI).
• Proficiency with EDA tools (Synopsys or Cadence: ICC2/Fusion Compiler, Innovus, PrimeTime/Tempus, StarRC).
• Strong scripting in Python, Tcl, Shell, or Perl, and automation skills.

Responsibilities

• Shape full-chip and block-level implementation, including floorplanning, placement, routing, timing closure, and signoff for complex GPU/SoC designs.
• Develop implementation strategies to achieve high PPA targets and reliability across advanced nodes.
• Drive methodology innovation, automation, and scalable design practices across multiple projects.
• Collaborate with architecture, RTL, advanced design technology, software, system teams, and external vendors to adapt flows.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote ownership, accountability, and continuous learning.
