Samsung Austin Research and Development Center (SARC) is seeking a Senior or Staff Physical Design Engineer to advance the physical implementation of high‑performance GPU IP. You will contribute to floorplanning, placement, routing, timing closure, and signoff, while liaising with hardware and system teams to optimize power, performance, and area in cutting-edge nodes.

You will develop scripts to automate flows, debug tool issues, and improve repeatability across projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/CE or related field required or higher.
• 6+ years of experience or 4+ years with a Master’s; 2+ years with PhD.
• 2+ years hands-on experience with physical design implementation flows (synthesis through signoff).
• Proficiency with Synopsys or Cadence toolsets (ICC2/Fusion Compiler, Innovus, PrimeTime/Tempus, StarRC).
• Strong scripting in Python, TCL, Shell, or Perl.
• Familiarity with low-power implementation, Calibre/ICV verification, and submicron challenges.

Responsibilities

• Support physical implementation and methodology execution for high-performance GPU IP.
• Execute floorplanning, placement, routing, timing closure, and signoff with cross-functional teams.
• Assist STA-driven optimization, DRC/LVS, and reliability considerations across GPU blocks.
• Develop scripts and automation to enhance design productivity and repeatability.
• Collaborate with vendors and hardware teams to adapt flows for cutting-edge nodes.
