Job summary

Salesforce, Inc. is seeking a Senior/Lead Distributed Systems Software Engineer for GovCloud. The role focuses on building highly available, large-scale services, with emphasis on AI-first engineering and security compliance for government customers.

You will design and operate resilient back-end systems, use Kubernetes/Docker/Mesos, and collaborate across teams to deliver production-grade software while driving innovations in AI tooling and infrastructure-as-code.

Qualifications

• Related technical degree required.
• 5+ years backend software development experience.
• Proficient in Java, Go, Python, or Ruby.
• Experience owning and operating multiple instances of a critical service.
• Experience with Agile development and Test Driven Development.
• Experience with monitoring, alerting, logging, and reporting applications.
• Experience with distributed databases including PostgreSQL.
• AI-first engineering mindset and experience using AI tools (Claude/Copilot/Codex).
• Advanced prompt engineering to write precise, structured prompts.

Responsibilities

• Deliver cloud infrastructure automation tools, frameworks, workflows, and validation platforms on cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, Azure, or Alibaba.
• Design, develop, debug, and operate resilient distributed systems across data centers.
• Build production-grade software using modern engineering practices with AI integrated into development workflows.
• Contribute to open source technology used in the stack (Spinnaker, Zookeeper, etc.).
• Develop Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform.
• Write microservices on Kubernetes, Docker, Mesos.
• Design systems where AI agents integrate into human workflows at scale.
• Contribute to shared system context with designs, constraints, standards for AI reliability.
• Critically evaluate code (Human or AI-generated) for quality and security.
• Resolve complex technical issues to improve availability and performance.
• Balance live-site management with feature delivery and debt retirement.
• Participate in on-call rotation to keep services operational.
