Job summary

Salesforce is seeking a Distributed Systems Software Engineer - GovCloud (Senior/Lead) to join our Public Cloud engineering teams. You will design, build, and operate high-scale distributed systems across data centers, with a strong focus on concurrency, reliability, and AI-enabled development.

The role requires deep backend expertise (Java/Golang/Python/Ruby), experience with modern infra tools (Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker), and a genuine AI-first approach.

Qualifications

• A related technical degree required.
• 5+ years backend software development experience.
• Deep knowledge of Java, Golang, Python, or Ruby.
• Experience owning and operating multiple instances of a critical service.
• Experience with Agile development methodology and Test Driven Development.
• Experience with critical infrastructure services including monitoring, alerting, logging, and reporting applications.
• Experience with distributed database systems and relational databases like Postgres is a plus.
• AI-first approach to engineering and using AI to move faster.
• Experience using AI tools (Claude, Copilot, Codex, Cursor) in development workflows.
• Advanced prompt engineering to craft precise prompts and reliable system context.

Responsibilities

• Deliver cloud infrastructure automation tools and validation platforms on public cloud platforms.
• Design, develop, debug, and operate resilient distributed systems across data centers.
• Build production-grade software using modern engineering practices with AI as a core part of workflows.
• Contribute to open source tech and infrastructure tooling.
• Develop Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform.
• Write microservices on Kubernetes, Docker, and Mesos.
• Architect AI-integrated systems that fit into human workflows at scale.
• Maintain a shared system context documenting designs, constraints, and standards.
• Critically evaluate code for correctness, quality, security and performance.
• Balance live-site management with feature delivery and technical debt retirement.
• Participate in on-call rotations to keep services operational.
