Job summary

MEC General Contractors is seeking a Senior Accountant - General Ledger to own the integrity of the general ledger and lead the monthly close in a dynamic construction environment in Melbourne, FL. Daily cash management, bank reconciliations, and review-ready financials will be delivered to the Controller and VP of Finance twice monthly.

The role emphasizes driving efficiencies through AI and automation while maintaining strict internal controls and audit readiness.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
2-5 years of GL, close or reconciliation experience; construction or project-based accounting preferred.
Working knowledge of US GAAP, accrual accounting and internal controls.
Experience with a cloud ERP; Sage Intacct strongly preferred.
Advanced Excel (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliation workbooks).
Regular, practical use of AI tools (such as Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot) in accounting or analytical work.

Responsibilities

Record cash movements and reconcile bank accounts; manage daily cash in Sage Intacct.
Post accruals, prepaids and reclasses; monitor cost of sales by project.
Reconcile balance sheet accounts and ensure accuracy during closes.
Prepare schedules and support for annual audits, tax filings, and reporting.
Identify and implement AI-driven process improvements to shorten close and improve accuracy.
