Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Senior Civil/Geotechnical Engineer with mining geotechnical expertise to join our Mine Waste team in Tucson, AZ. The role involves leading design of mine waste containment, tailings, and heap leach facilities, and coordinating with regional teams on challenging projects.

You will manage investigations, analyses, and client relationships, deliver high-quality reports on time and within budget, and mentor junior engineers while staying current with geotechnical engineering

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering.
• 5–7 years of post-education experience in engineering and geotechnical design.
• Professional Engineer registration.
• Experience in tailings management and heap leach facility design in mining.
• Strong knowledge of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering.
• Proven client liaison and business development skills.
• Project management for small to mid-level projects with tracking hours/expenses.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong self-leadership with attention to detail and multitasking.
• Ability to lead junior team while adhering to QA/QC.
• Strong technical writing and analytical skills.
• Ability to coordinate with subcontractors and field staff.
• Willingness to travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Lead civil design of mine waste containment and heap leach facilities.
• Manage geotechnical field investigations and data interpretation.
• Direct complex geotechnical analyses including stability and seepage.
• Manage projects to client-approved scopes and budgets.
• Develop client relationships and support business development.
• Lead multi-disciplinary project teams.
• Support proposals and design work packages.
• Manage junior engineers.
• Stay current with geotechnical techniques.
• Collaborate with engineers and planners on public projects.
• Ensure QA/QC and ethical conduct.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required.
