Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Senior Civil/Geotechnical Engineer to join our Mine Waste team in Tucson, AZ, with consideration for Reno or Elko, NV. You will lead civil design of mine waste containment facilities, oversee geotechnical analyses, and collaborate with a regional multidisciplinary team on challenging mining and heavy civil projects.

The role requires a PE, 5–7 years of relevant experience, strong communication, and the ability to manage projects from scope through delivery while mentoring

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering and 5–7 years experience.
• Professional Engineer registration (PE).
• Experience with tailings management and heap leach facility design in the mining industry.
• Knowledge of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering.
• Strong client liaison and business development skills.
• Project management experience with small to mid-level projects.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Ability to lead junior staff and QA/QC adherence.
• Safe work practices and travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Lead civil design of mine waste containment facilities including tailings and heap leach layouts.
• Manage geotechnical engineering projects and field investigations.
• Direct complex geotechnical analyses: stability, seepage, deposition modelling.
• Deliver high-quality reports on time and within budget.
• Contribute to client relationships and business development.
• Lead multi-disciplinary project teams.
• Support proposals and design work packages.
• Mentor junior engineers and ensure QA/QC.
• Stay current with geotechnical techniques.
• Collaborate with engineers and planners on infrastructure projects.
