Job description

As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will play a key role in managing exciting and technically challenging projects ranging from major highway improvements to substations, transmission lines, and renewable energy projects. Responsibilities include planning field programs, conducting technical briefings with field staff, and project management tasks including budgeting and client communications. You will also be responsible for performing and overseeing engineering analyses, preparing technical reports, conducting site visits, and overseeing field explorations and construction observations. As a senior engineer, you will mentor and oversee the work of junior staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Lead project management tasks such as developing budgets and scopes, client billings, reviewing field reports, contract reviews, and proposal development. Collaborate with Principals and Associates for effective project execution.
  2. Serve as a technical resource for clients and project staff, providing guidance to solve complex challenges.
  3. Develop accurate field reports, figures, and tables with minimal edits.
  4. Review deliverables from staff and mid-level employees; mentor junior staff in technical skills and best practices.
  5. Lead business development activities, including identifying potential clients and attending industry conferences.
  6. Coordinate field exploration programs and construction projects, ensuring work aligns with project plans, specifications, and safety guidelines.
  7. Perform engineering analyses and calculations, including developing complex models (e.g., numerical, hydraulic/hydrologic).
  8. Conduct complex spatial analyses such as contours, clipping, and buffering.
  9. Create project deliverables related to GIS data, maps, and database organization.
Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required; Master's in Geotechnical or Geological Engineering preferred.
  2. Minimum 6 years of relevant experience.
  3. At least 4 years of project management experience.
  4. PE license is required.
  5. Professional-level verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Valid driver’s license.
  7. Ability to conduct site visits involving lifting loads up to 40 pounds and hiking over strenuous terrain in various weather conditions.
  8. Willingness to travel locally and long distances for client service, business development, and office visits.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
  1. Complete background and reference checks.
  2. Perform physical activities including exerting up to 50 pounds of force.
  3. Work on a PC for prolonged periods, including sitting and viewing screens.
  4. Travel for short-term and long-term assignments as needed.
  5. Work safely, report hazards, participate in safety briefings, and wear appropriate safety gear during fieldwork.

Our estimated salary range for this position in Spokane, WA, is $102,500 - $153,700 annually, based on experience and education. Compensation includes potential bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package, including healthcare, 401(k), insurance, paid time off, and more.
