Job summary

MO is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support the Department of Veterans Affairs, modernizing eligibility and enrollment systems used by millions of veterans and families. You will design, develop, and maintain enterprise Java applications using Java 17+, Spring Boot, and REST/SOAP services, across a remote, mission-driven team.

Candidates should have 5–8 years of professional experience, a CS-related degree, and strong problem-solving and collaboration skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
• 5–8 years of software development experience in a professional environment.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java development.
• Hands-on experience with Spring Framework and/or Spring Boot.
• Experience developing REST APIs and web services.
• Experience working with Oracle or other relational databases.
• Experience using Git-based source control.
• Experience in Agile/Scrum environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise Java applications
• Analyze and resolve complex software defects and production issues
• Support enhancements and sustainment activities for applications utilizing Java, Spring Framework, Struts, JSP, EJB, JMS, WebLogic, Hibernate, Oracle
• Collaborate with architects and senior developers on modernization initiatives
• Develop and optimize SQL queries and database integrations
• Participate in code reviews and mentor junior developers
• Contribute to automated testing, CI/CD processes, and deployments
